ABOUT US

Operating in Montgomery County, MD, since its formation on September 24, 1986, the PVAC Fund, Inc. (the Fund) is a 501(c)(3), tax-exempt organization that serves the educational and economic development needs of socially and economically disadvantaged persons.  With a special emphasis on the needs of women, the Fund also works to encourage volunteerism and collaboration with public and private agencies within the community. ​ 

 

Although established by charter members of the Potomac Valley Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. (the Chapter), the Fund is a separate and independent organization that has its own board and financial structure.  The Fund and the Chapter often collaborate on fundraising and community projects that address their common goals.  

 

The Fund operates exclusively for charitable and educational purposes, including to:

 

  • Support the community service initiatives of the Chapter and other community service organizations.

  • Implement programs designed to encourage educational achievement among socially and economically disadvantaged youth, and single heads-of-households.

  • Design and initiate projects that provide management, technical and other assistance to small business concerns owned by socially and economically disadvantaged women.

 

Consistent with such purposes, the Fund provides grants and collaborates with community organizations on projects such as senior health and wellness seminars, HIV and AIDS training for teens and seniors, economic development workshops, and after-school and evening mentoring.  These organizations include: 

 

  • Alzheimer’s Association

  • Easter Seals

  • Gaithersburg-Rockville Kappa League

  • George B. Thomas Learning Academy

  • Manna Food Center

  • March of Dimes

  • NAACP-ACT-SO program  

  • National Pan-Hellenic Council of Montgomery County, MD

  • NIH Children’s Center

  • Patuxent River (MD) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated

  • Potomac Valley Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

  • St. Jude’s Hospital

 

The Fund provides scholarships for academically astute and economically challenged youth in Montgomery County, Maryland.  The Fund has awarded over $85,000 to Historically Black Colleges and Universities and over $350,000 in community grants and student scholarships.
