Cheryl Prejean Greaux

I, Cheryl Prejean Greaux, am a proud 50+year member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. When I entered Texas Southern University at 16 after graduating from Jack Yates High School in Houston, Texas at 15, I was determined to be the Harriet Tubman of my
family!  My elders in my family believed and taught me that education and excellence could help you fight prejudice when you encounter it.

The elders further instilled in me and I have passed it on to the younger generations that we must collectively help everyone to move upward and onward. After integrating NASA at Clearlake, achieving my first federal position due to the picketing campaign of the National Urban League’s Houston office, I was determined to do everything that I could to improve the lives of my family and the entire Black Community.

I was blessed to be selected by the Urban League to be the first Black professional at NASA’s Clearlake facility.  They selected me because I had demonstrated my strength and expertise on the picket line because they needed someone who would not leave in
anger when the employees hurled racial taunts at me as they did in 1969! Later, I got my big break to begin my journey to senior leadership in the Civil Rights Affirmative Action Program which integrated Fortune 500 companies by linking government contracts with mandatory goals and timetables for hiring and promoting minorities and women!  I was promoted to senior management in Washington DC when the President of a company in Houston kicked me out of his company when I told him
that setting integration goals were a condition for his company receiving a multimillion dollar federal contract.

I continued up the ladder of senior management and helped my baby sister and other family members secure positions in the federal government.  I met my husband, Bob at the Labor Department when I came to Washington! I could not be prouder that I have inspired my granddaughter, Lauryn Miller to become a Delta in 2024!

I am hoping that Lauryn will join our Chapter with Soror Chona Manuel’s active pursuit as well as mine!

Finally, Securing The Named Scholarships for my rock, my mother, Evelyn Faye Jones and my beloved husband, Robert Bruce Greaux gave me great joy!
