SCHOLARSHIP / MENTORING PROGRAMS:

EDUCATE OUR CHILDREN AND HELP

TRANSFORM THE WORLD

Since its inception, the Fund has provided scholarships to allow smart and dedicated students to enroll and graduate from college.  In addition to the financial support, the Fund stays in touch with the students and connects with them in person at least twice a year. The scholars get needed financial assistance and engage with women who understand the importance of giving back and extending a hand to support the next generation, a great life lesson.

The Fund supports the scholarship program of the Montgomery County, Maryland Panhellenic Council and provides educational assistance to high school seniors in the mentoring programs who pursue higher education.

Our Impact:

“I thank the PVAC Fund for being like a family to me and checking on my progress with my academics and for their overall support.”  - Leaynet

“The support I’ve received from the PVAC Fund has meant an ability to be educated without any financial stresses, allowing me to fully focus and dedicate myself to my studies.” - Ariel

“The support has meant a great deal and helped me be able to attend school and pursue my dreams.  It’s just nice to know that they so wanted to give me the scholarship.”  - Rachel

The Fund also supports mentoring programs for young girls between the ages of 11 and 17 living in low to moderate income housing in Montgomery County, Maryland.  The group meets monthly and activities include workshops on physical and mental health, financial literacy, study skills as well as social outings.  We also lend support to similar programs for young boys between the ages of 9 and 14 similarly situated and addresses topics on relationships, boundaries and choices, college and career development, and financial wealth and entrepreneurial opportunities.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH:

THE PRIVILEGE OF SUPPORTING

AMAZING PROGRAMS MAKING A DIFFERENCE

Each year, the PVAC Fund is proud to support community programs that address the needs of children and their families including:

  • Partnering with the Potomac Valley Alumnae Chapter to support families whose children are undergoing treatment at the National Institute of Health and are staying at the NIH Children’s Center during the Christmas holiday season.  The PVAC Fund and the Potomac Valley Alumnae Chapter decorate the dining room with holiday cheer, prepare and serve a dinner meal, and present a $500 donation to the Center.

  • Providing scholarship funds to allow young males to attend the Unity Christian Fellowship annual 1-Day Game Changer Conference for African American boys and other boys of color in Montgomery County.  The mission of the conference is to provide young male students in grades 3 through college with a life-changing experience that promotes confidence and competency, and instills values needed to become a “success story.”
